And, oh yes, his mama’s cake is to die for.

Dessert.

A palate-cleansing, sweet treat at the end of a delicious southern meal of lip-smacking, hickory-smoked, Hall of Fame Ribs is the closest evidence of even a minor difference of opinion that Lee Roy Selmon will admit to in his relationship with the men and women responsible for the day-to-day operations of “Lee Roy Selmon’s All-American Grill,” the seven-unit chain that bears his name.

“There was a certain cake item I thought would be nice to put on the menu,” says the once fiercely competitive, now retired Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive end.

He really doesn’t want to talk about it, as if doing so would be disloyal. He won’t say what kind of cake it is, exactly, on the record, except that his mother made it back in Eufala, Oklahoma, for him and his eight siblings. And it was “delicious.”
